Happy Cochlear Implant Day!

Did you know that today, on February 25, people all around the world celebrate International Cochlear Implant Day?

Why February 25?

It was on this day back in 1957 in Paris that French otosurgeon Charles Eyries, with the assistance of medical physicist André Djourno, performed the world’s first cochlear implant surgery. Inspired by the success of the French team, scientists around the world continued to explore this path. Despite the limited technical capabilities of the early device, they recognized the enormous potential of this groundbreaking experiment.

And it is precisely thanks to their work that we are where we are today — something we are endlessly grateful for.

Why Celebrate?

Cochlear implantation is no longer something unknown. Today, we can confidently say that modern hearing restoration technologies make it possible to help nearly every patient with hearing loss, regardless of its cause.
International Cochlear Implant Day is celebrated around the globe to show people with hearing impairments just how effective and life-changing today’s cochlear implant technologies truly are.
